Kokeshi Dolls are traditional Japanese wooden dolls and are renowned as one of Japan's most vibrant and collectible folk arts. They are stunning decor pieces with a calm, peaceful energy that radiates happiness through the aged patina of the timber and the sheer beauty of the artisans hand-painted detailing.

Vintage Kokeshi Dolls are made from the seasoned wood of the Cherry or Mizuki tree. The traditional form of the doll which is a simple trunk (body) and enlarged head is turned on a lathe, smoothed, painted and then waxed and polished until a wonderful sheen is achieved.

Measures 37cm tall. The artist signature is painted down the side, it is an elaborate signature and cannot be translated. It has a masculine energy and is in excellent condition.
